“Austin, Texas is a great place for an indie filmmaker. We have multiple film festivals like the Austin Film Festival and South by Southwest. Enter The Session, a film created by a group of University of Texas students and graduates. They are a dedicated bunch of artists who are carving their own way within the Texas film scene. They call themselves Red Herring Productions.

MEET Director Stephen Robinson (with the amazing Cynthia Yazmin)

At the age when most kids were perplexed and fascinated by the idea of baking soda and vinegar successfully replicating a volcanic explosion, I had already discovered the feeling of being in love. I LOVED telling stories. It was a talent I began developing when I was probably younger than eight years old and have continued to nurture into a deep passion. From the time I first picked up my Aunt’s direct-to-VHS video recorder, I have completed over 40 movies, spanning running times of 2min to 1hr and 30min. I’ve had the blessing to direct a feature film which sold out to a crowd of 500 people, as well as win a nationally recognized award for it’s script; all at the age of seventeen. Many of my films have been showcased at prestigious film festivals including AFF and international festivals in Utah.

I believe that movies are a powerful tool in bringing together different groups of people to help each other recognize basic and essential human characteristics. They bind, strengthen and carry people to explore new ways of viewing our world.

Alfred Hitchcock was once asked “Do you think movies should be a slice of life?” to which he responded “No, I believe they should be a slice of cake!”. I agree whole-heartedly. I would also add that it is important to enlighten the human mind by sharing entertaining but CLEAN ideas. We live in a world filled with sex, violence and mayhem. So let’s enjoy a slice of cake for once, something sweet, delicate but still made with many, many layers.

Get to know the producer: Laura Herring!

The first thing I ever wanted to be was an astronaut. When I finally learned to read at 7 I realized that I wanted to be a writer, because then I could go to the stars whenever I wanted.

At the heart of me I will always be a storyteller. Versed in film and entrepreneurship I know that my greatest gift as a storyteller is to create and deliver value. That value I hope is something that can be articulated as thought-provoking and inspiring emotional experience and life lessons.
